Meet the people behind your care
Appell & Sorrell Wellness is a medical clinic in Vestavia, near Life Time Fitness, specializing in hormone and metabolic health. We are led by longtime Birmingham residents and orthopedic surgeons Dr. Scott Appell and Dr. Robert Sorrell. After decades of helping patients improve recovery and mobility, they created a place for integrative care focused on prevention and longevity.
Joined by nurse practitioner Ashley Whitsett, we help patients feel better and live brighter every day.

Scott Appell, MD
Dr. Scott Appell is a longtime Birmingham resident and board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in total joint replacement and intervention. After earning his bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida, he attended the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed his residency at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
With more than four decades in the field, Dr. Appell has long incorporated weight loss plans with orthopedic patients to promote recovery and mobility. He spent seven years with the former Complete Weight Loss and Healthcare.

Robert Sorrell, MD
Dr. Robert Sorrell is a lifelong resident of Birmingham and Vestavia Hills and a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, joint replacement, and arthroscopic surgery. He is an Auburn University graduate and was an Academic All American and All SEC baseball player.
After medical school and residency at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, Dr. Sorrell has been in private practice in Birmingham since 1992, helping patients with weight loss to improve surgical results, recovery time, and mobility.
Family nurse practitioner
Ashley Whitsett, CRNP
A lifetime Birmingham resident, Ashley Whitsett earned her bachelor’s degree from the Auburn University College of Nursing.
While working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s of Alabama, she completed her family nurse practitioner degree at the UAB School of Nursing, where her extensive clinical hours focused on weight loss medicine.
